Website Design
Simple yet powerful designs work wonderfully for websites. Don't spend a mint on lots of flashy graphics and blinking lights! Most web surfers have learnt to hate them. We provide completely custom website design for you, your company or group, with full consultation for all levels of knowledge from absolute beginner to tech-savy professional. Modification of existing web pages can also be arranged.
We can provide anything from a complete design consultation, content provision, build, domain registration and hosting, or just the areas you feel you need help with, working alongside your current resources.
All websites are designed and built with ease of use in mind, for all users including those who may be deaf, blind or partially sighted. They also conform to all relevant industry standards, and carry check marks at the bottom of all pages. Commonly pages are built from HTML and CSS by hand to increase loading speed, only using dynamically generated pages where necessary, fully integrating the design to make the change invisible. Some sites include several different systems delivering dynamic content, and we use whatever technology is most appropriate for the challenge, including but not limited to PHP (often with SQL), Java, Flash and HTML5.
The following is a selection of sites we have designed, including before and after images. Please feel free to take a look around them.
Watford Quakers
www.watfordquakers.org.uk- The 'Sharing' page makes use of Wordpress blogging platform (see wordpress.org), with a completely customised and integrated theme.
- The 'Library' page makes use of the OPAC functions of OpenBiblio (see obiblio.sourceforge.net) to allow searching of the digital catalogue.
- For the videos, JW Player from LongTail Video (see www.longtailvideo.com) is the main playback system, with embedded Youtube videos as a backup.
- Behind the scenes Piwik (see piwik.org) is being used to record statistics on visitors.
- Google Maps (see maps.google.co.uk) and Google Calendar (see calendar.google.com) provide useful information and can be administered through Google accounts.
South West Herts Model Railway Society
www.swhmrs.org.uk- A white background makes the text easier to read and gives a minimalist feel.
- The straight forward menu makes the site easier to navigate.
- Almost all pages now feature colourful pictures to lift the design, the previous site had none.
- Recoding the site by hand has made it much easier to maintain, as well as reducing loading times.
- Google Maps (see maps.google.co.uk) provides interactive mapping without leaving the site.
